George Washington Portrait Program

 George Washington Portrait Program

To keep alive the memory of our first President in the minds of America’s school children, the Mt.  Vernon Ladies Association initiated the “George Washington Portrait Program” on the 275th anniversary of his birth in 2007. Funds donated by individuals or groups allow schools to receive a reproduction Rembrandt Peale portrait of Washington, an American flag which has flown over Mt. Vernon and a set of curriculum materials rich with activities.
The Republican Women of Baltimore County recently sponsored the Cambridge School in Reisterstown (see top and right picture). On April 23rd the 6th grade was presented with Washington’s portrait by Andy Morse, Director of Major Gifts, and Yvonne Jones of Mt. Vernon’s Education of Department.
Carney Elementary School

The donation cost for each school is $275, and we endeavor to continue our commitment to this  project with two additional schools in the coming year. Pinewood Elementary in Timonium received our first gift in February, 2010.
